Armaf Club de Nuit Sillage is a loose interpretation of Creed Silver Mountain Water rather than a close dupe. Both are fresh, fruity and blackcurrant-led, but Sillage is sweeter, heavier and considerably louder, while Silver Mountain Water is airy, tea-like and almost transparent. Sillage costs £33.99 for 105ml; the Creed costs several times that.
Sillage is the Club de Nuit flanker that gets recommended least and deserves it most. It also carries the least accurate dupe label in the range, which is worth unpicking before you spend money expecting one thing and receiving another.

A wear diary, hour by hour
First ten minutes. Bright, slightly syrupy blackcurrant with a lemony lift. There is a fizzy quality that reads as expensive for about half a minute and then settles into something more obviously modern and synthetic. It is not subtle and it does not pretend to be.
Thirty minutes to two hours. This is the best stretch. The fruit stays but a green, faintly metallic freshness comes up underneath it, and the whole thing feels clean rather than sweet. Projection here is genuinely strong; people will comment.
Three to five hours. The blackcurrant fades and a musky, mildly powdery base takes over. Still pleasant, noticeably less interesting. This is where Silver Mountain Water pulls away, because the Creed's tea and blackcurrant accord holds its shape rather than collapsing into musk.
Six hours onwards. A soft clean skin scent. Fine, unremarkable, gone by the time you get home from a long day.
How close is it to Silver Mountain Water?
Not very, and anyone telling you otherwise has smelled one of them. Silver Mountain Water is built around transparency: blackcurrant, green tea and a cool, almost icy musk, with deliberate restraint. It projects softly and rewards close attention.
Club de Nuit Sillage takes the blackcurrant idea and makes it bigger, sweeter and more forceful. If you like the Creed for its quietness you will find the Armaf brash. If you liked the note but always wished it lasted and carried, Sillage is arguably the more useful fragrance.

If you are choosing between the two Armafs, the honest split is this: Milestone is the better hot-weather fragrance and Sillage is the better all-day one. Milestone is brighter and thinner. Sillage has more body and survives an evening.
What Sillage does badly
Before the specifics, the general problem: Sillage is the flanker Armaf never quite finished. There is a very good forty minutes in the middle of it, surrounded by an opening that is too sweet and a base that is too plain. Nothing about it is bad. Quite a lot of it is unremarkable, and at £33.99 it sits above Milestone without clearly beating it.
The sweetness is the main complaint and it is a fair one. There is a candied edge to the blackcurrant that pushes the fragrance towards something younger than the bottle suggests. On some skin it tips into cough-sweet territory in the first fifteen minutes.
The base is also generic. Once the fruit goes you are left with a clean musk that could belong to a hundred other fragrances, which is the standard Armaf compromise. And like the rest of the line, batch strength varies. Some bottles run noticeably thinner than others.
Finally, the name oversells it. "Sillage" is the French term for the trail a fragrance leaves. This one does leave a trail, but not more than Club de Nuit Intense Man, which is louder still. Do not choose it on the name.
How to get the best out of it
Sillage responds badly to over-spraying. Two sprays on the chest and one on the back of the neck is the ceiling for most situations, and going beyond that turns the fruit from fresh to cloying without adding much distance. It also performs better on moisturised skin, where the musky base has something to hold on to; on dry skin the whole thing shortens by an hour or more.
It layers well with almost nothing, which is worth knowing before you experiment. The blackcurrant is loud enough to dominate whatever you put with it. The one exception is an unscented or lightly musky body product underneath, which extends the tail without altering the character.
Application point matters more than usual here too. On the neck it can feel sharp and close; on the chest and forearms it opens out and the fruit reads cleaner. If you have found fresh fragrances irritating in the past, this is one to keep away from the collar line.
Is the 10ml worth trying first?
Yes, and more so here than elsewhere in the range. Sillage is the most skin-dependent Club de Nuit: the same spray reads clean and fresh on one person and sugary on another. The 10ml bottle at £12.00 is enough for a fortnight of proper wearing, which is the only way to find out which version you get.
Who it's for and who should skip it
Worth your money if:
- You want a fresh fruity fragrance with real projection.
- You wear scent during the day, outdoors, in spring and summer.
- You found Club de Nuit Intense Man too smoky and heavy.
- You want something in the range that is not instantly recognisable to everyone.
Not for you if:
- You want an accurate Silver Mountain Water substitute. This is not it.
- You dislike sweetness in fresh fragrances.
- You need something discreet for an office with close desks.
- You want depth in the dry-down. It goes plain after four hours.
Compare it against the rest of the line in the Club de Nuit collection before committing to the full bottle.
Frequently asked questions
Is Club de Nuit Sillage a Silver Mountain Water dupe?
Only loosely. Both are blackcurrant-led fresh fragrances, but Silver Mountain Water is quiet, dry and tea-like while Sillage is sweeter, heavier and much louder. If you want a close reconstruction of the Creed you will be disappointed. If you want the same note in a bolder fragrance, it works well.
How long does Club de Nuit Sillage last?
Six to eight hours on skin, with the strongest projection in the first four. On clothing it lasts considerably longer. The most interesting part of the fragrance happens between thirty minutes and two hours, after which it settles into a clean musky base that is pleasant but plain.
Sillage or Milestone for British summer?
Milestone at £29.99 is the better choice for genuinely hot days, being brighter and lighter on melon and citrus. Sillage has more weight and lasts better through a long day or an evening out. In a typical British summer, Sillage is the more useful of the two most of the time.
Is Sillage too sweet?
For some people, yes. The blackcurrant has a candied edge in the opening that reads as sugary on certain skin types. It calms down after twenty minutes or so. Trying the 10ml first is the sensible route, because this fragrance varies more from person to person than the rest of the range.
Is it office-appropriate?
With one spray, in a well-ventilated space, yes. With three sprays in a small room, no. It projects hard for the first few hours and it is noticeably fruity, which draws attention. If you need something invisible at a desk, this is not the fragrance to pick.
